How It Works

The Copper / Oxygen pool sanitation system is more effective than any competing products. Here, we explain how the system (a.k.a. appliance) works. For ease of explanation, the system is split into a Plumbing side and an Electrical side.

Plumbing Side

The Plumbing side always has an Electrode Chamber containing two Copper bars and two Titanium plates.

This Electrode chamber installs into your 1.5” or 2” PVC plumbing return lines. It is powered by electrical conductors (wires) coming from the Control box. If you select the Automated system, you will also have a CO2 dispensing chamber that installs into your 2” PVC plumbing return line. As water flows out of your filter (Sand or DE) heading back to your pool, the water flows through the Electrode chamber, then the CO2 dispensing chamber, then out your return jets in your pool.

Electrical Side

The Electrical side consists of your control box. Every control box has wires going to the Copper bars and the Titanium plates.

The control box is wired into your pool equipment control panel, either by plug or direct wire to the same electrical relay or breaker powering your filter pump. The Standard and Turbo control boxes provide a rocker switch allowing users to manually alternate between applying power to the Copper bars via the Ionize feature or to the Titanium plates via the Oxidize feature. The preferred operation is to Ionize 1-day per week and Oxidize 6-days per week. If one selects the Automated system, it is programed to alternate between Ionize and Oxidize.

Only the Automated system has wires going to the CO2 valve (shown above) to control when CO2 flows through tubing to the dispenser (shown below).

Oxidize Mode

When your system is set to Oxidize, 4watts of current is applied to the Titanium Plates. These are coated with a special blend of Platinum and Iridium, and they make a massive number of micro bubbles of Oxygen.

What defines massive: 40 grams of O2 per minute. This raises your pool water to ~ 6.5ppb (parts per billion) of free Oxygen. Compare this to the typical Ozonator that produces a mere 4 grams of O2 per hour. Why do you need such a high level of dissolved Oxygen in your pool water? It bonds to uric acid, sweat, suntan lotion, sun block, etc. and neutralizes them. Essentially, Oxygen is your sanitizer. Your Copper / Oxygen pool can handle a lot more bathers (a.k.a. swimmers) than chlorine or saltwater pools without needing shock. How much do you pay for shock each year?

Ionize Mode

When your system is set to Ionize, 4watts of current is applied to the Copper Bars.

Copper is added to your pool with a desired concentration of 0.4ppm to 0.7ppm. Seems awfully low, right? This is because Copper is far more lethal to Algae, Bacteria, Microbes, etc. than chlorine, of which it is recommended to have 1.0ppm to 4.0ppm of chlorine in your pool. To be precise, this is the recommended chlorine concentration whether your pool is saltwater or chlorine.

And that's how the system works.  We hope you found this quick summary helpful.  Please contact us if you want to have a real-time question and answer session. We'd love to chat with you.
